Today I am posting a card I made from a weekly sketch over at Journey Sketches Facebook page. Janice and Kazan (fellow Journey Coaches) come up with new sketches for us each week. I love the way this turned out.
This is my take on Journey Sketch 31 this week over at the Journey Sketches Facebook page. It was all about the triangle gate fold. I taught this in class last night and the girls really liked the lace on the gate panels. This is how I made it:
Cut Limeade Splash card stock (CS-0039) 4-14/" x 11. Score 2-1/8" from left and right and fold to the middle to make a gate fold. Crease well. Mark the middle of the 2-1/8" flaps at 2-3/4" lightly with a pencil. Now place top of left fold and your pencil mark on the cut line of your paper trimmer (TO-0039) and cut. Repeat with the bottom of this flap to create a triangle shape. Duplicate this cutting on the right side flap.
Now lets die cut the lace. I used Whipped Cream card stock CS-0040) and Artful Burst Die set (DI-0220) on the Journey Platinum Die Cut Machine (TO-0090) to cut the lace panel. Pretty.
After die cutting the lace panel I put a little of the Journey Craft Glue (AC--0111) on a section of one of the Fusion Ink Sponges (JM-0014) (clipped with a large paper clip from Staples) and dabbed glue onto the panel where it would touch the card centering it (the lace panel is symmetrical). I did this one side at a time trimming off the excess with the Detail Pro Shears (To-0063) before moving to the second flap.
I then traced around the largest die of the Journey Ovals (DI-0042) with a pencil on to Whipped Cream card stock and cut this out. Remember when cutting by hand to move the paper not the scissors. I put 2 Medium Journey Foam Squares (AD-0085) on each of the triangle panels just left and right of the point and layered the cut oval centering on card.
Using Vellum card stock (PP-0044) and Black Licorice Ink (IP-0041) I stamped the Your Kindness stamp set (AT-0287) on the vellum. I quickly poured Black Licorice Embossing Powder (IP-0099) on to the wet ink and heated it with the Journey Heat Gun (TO-0083). If you have not embossed before you will notice that the powder goes on looking matte and when heated looks glossy. Do not overheat or you will melt your powder into your paper. I adore the Journey Vellum paper card stock. It is a very nice weight and a joy to work with. You can earn the stamp set with a $50 order as a Bloom Benefit.
Once the embossing powder is cool (only takes a few seconds) then turn your vellum over and color with alcohol markers from the backside of the vellum. This will soften your colors a bit and add an elegance to your image.
I then glued the smallest green Rainbow Drops (AC-0178) to the front of the image at the base of the leaves with craft glue. When glue was set (work on something else while it's drying - see next instruction), I turned over the image and cut the Small Journey Foam Squares (AD-0084) into 4 pieces and attached on the back side behind the Rainbow Drops so the foam adhesive would not be visible and attached the image to the oval panel leaving room at the top for your bow. Mind you those cut foam squares are tiny but, tiny for a reason.
Now, while you are waiting for your glue to dry behind the Rainbow drops, use Clear Pigment Ink (IP-0102) and ink up just the top flower portion of the stamp (carefully) and stamp along the top and bottom of the Watermelon Fusion card stock (CS-0039) panel (4-1/4" x 5-1/2"). Slide this panel behind the folded panels.
Add a little Sparkle Silk (IP-0126) to a Media Mister (TO-0121) shake well and spritz the entire card front. Don't spray to heavily as the more you spray the more your vellum will curl.
Tie a bow with Satin Banana Cream Ribbon (AC-0271), trim the tails and attach to top of oval panel with Journey Glue Dots (AC-0083).
